A Season To Be Thankful

...actually, the title of this post seems a bit misleading...as I'm typing along, thoughts are wandering...

Thankfulness shouldn't be "seasonal"...it should be year-long...but of course, throughout the year we all have our own problems to face, issues to resolve, and naturally, there's not a lot of time for us to sit down and reflect on our feelings of thankfulness towards the things in our surroundings.

But with Thanksgiving brushing by, Christmas looming in, and a brand new year around the corner, this is always the time for me, personally, to reminisc on the past and ponder about the future...

As I watch my own child gradually growing up each day, I feel so blessed for myself, and for her...

This feeling often makes me want to reach out and help other children achieve the same feeling...

Reality always hits when I realize our economy isn't getting any better, my husband isn't going to find a job soon, and I feel helpless in helping others...

Despite so, I'm now convinced that help can come in various forms. I may not be able to offer a lot of help, but every little help can make a big difference, especially in the life of a child.

I've been listening to my heart, and after some research, I strongly feel that helping orphaned children is a channel for me to express my thanks for all that I have and to help bring a smile on a child's face is my biggest blessing.

After much research in the past few months, I found the SOS Children's Villages to be a heart-warming place where children are given a family-like surrounding with a nurturing mother assigned to each group. I'm touched by their mission and truly have a strong calling to extend a helping hand.

Sponsoring a child is a big commitment, a responsibility that I'm not sure I can shoulder alone at this moment, but someday, one day, I would want to be a part of this community; In the mean time, I'll be contributing in a different way; there are various ways to donate, and I think in the spirit of this season, every child needs a warm blanket and a loving toy to call his or her own.

If  there's a calling deep inside your heart to help a child in need, and you don't know where to start, I encourage you to look into ways to donate to the SOS Children's Village, be it for just one season, one time, or a life time, giving a gift of a smile can be the biggest blessing.....God Bless!
